A Journey Through Calligraphy and Connection

Hi, I’m Yuya, a Japanese calligraphy artist, and I’m on a mission to share the spirit and beauty of Japan with the world.

My journey with calligraphy began as a schoolboy in Japan, where I found a deep sense of discipline and peace in the art. But it wasn’t until I left the country that I truly understood its power.

From 2017 to 2019, I traveled across 18 countries, and on the streets of cities like Sydney, I started writing people’s names in Kanji. What began as a simple street performance quickly evolved into something much deeper—a form of connection that transcended language. I saw how a name, when written with intention and care, could bring a smile to a father’s face and spark a moment of genuine human connection. It was during this journey that I realized the true purpose of my art.

Why I Create

For me, calligraphy is more than just an art form—it’s a way of life. It’s a bridge between cultures, a silent language that connects people and hearts.

My art became a conversation, transcending words. The smile of a father in Australia, the quiet look of a person in Spain, even the wild moment I saw a tattoo of my work on a man in Shibuya years later—these moments showed me the true power of this art.

Calligraphy is my daily ritual, my way of meditating and connecting with myself. Each brushstroke is a moment of mindfulness and an expression of my passion for Japanese culture. Through this art, I want to share the beauty, meaning, and soul of Kanji with you. I believe that if it can touch someone halfway across the world, it can touch you, too.
